effect from 1 January 1999, under the Equal Access Regime, telephone subscribers
in Malaysia can select any network from five telephone companies for their
national and international calls. As for cellular phones users, there are
currently five service operators to choose from. The government has introduced
the concept of tariff ceilings for fixed line and cellular services, the
rates depend on the market competition as the rates are not regulated. The
telecommunications service operators may set their rates at par or below
the ceiling rates. |

Data Centre (IDC) |
| This
service offers co-location and hosting services to customers. IDC offers
latest physical environment necessary to keep customers' servers running
at a very high speed access for 24 hours a day, 7 days a week and 365 days
a year. Nationwide, TM Net and Jaring have few data centres and located
at major towns with 155 Mbps connectivity. |
| Co-location
service allows customers to place a portion or all of client systems within
the IDC. The client can cut down on ongoing network costs and scale internet
operations easily with the growth of business. |

| Broadband
Services |
| TM
Net and Jaring offer broadband services using fixed and wireless technology
to both residential and corporate customers. The wireless broadband service
offered by TM Net and Jaring is available in major towns and is being extended
to other areas nationwide. |

| Satellite
Services |
| This
service uses satellite as a transport for IP traffic. It is currently offerred
to corporate consumers only. It is most suitble to those in remote areas
or area where there is a limitation on the infrastructure and is an alternative
to the fixed terrestrial lines. It uses C-band transponder; hence it will
not be affected by weather condition. The earth satellite hub is located
in Kuala Lumpur. |
